We believe that true empowerment is achieved through validation of student perceptions, feelings, reflections and conflicts in a supportive emotional climate and warm interpersonal relations. Indeed, expressions of emotion and sharing of personal experiences relevant to the contexts of learning are modeled and encouraged. Students are also encouraged to persevere in the challenges, to recognize and support for their affective states and to develop the sense of humor. A spirit of learners’ community is built, in which students and teachers mutually contribute to the construction of knowledge in a safe environment.
There are two programs of empowerment:
• Study skills support, when we introduce and teach effective learning methods;
• Emotional support, when we seek to guarantee students’ well-being.
We have appointed and established the network of personnel, including families, which supports students’ prosperity, academic and personals achievements. We care of our children health, emotional stability and successful conflict management.
The School teachers schedule extra academic assistance to students who has difficulties in particular subject twice a week. School consultants create strategies for teachers and students integration and development. Community psychologists help for troubled children with on going emotional issues and adolescence challenges. Dorm mentors review the discipline and help students with residence questions. Families share the responsibility with the School in organizing events, family weekends and trips, as well as, to keep structure. Counselors train children to gain decision making skills and to take an active role in shaping their future. One of our strengths is a wealth of programs, services, systems, and, most importantly, people who are focused on every student's success at Leysin Switzerland Boarding School.
