Leysin school is committed to the International Baccalaureate Switzerland boarding school Organization (which is based in Geneva) to offer students high quality international education to reach the greatest potential by obtaining the IB diploma.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program is a two-year boarding school program, primarily aimed at students aged 15 to 19. The studies require extra time and hard work on certain subjects. It leads to the widely recognized IB diploma, which gives many advantages for future university and college future studies. Also, IB diploma gives extra-credits in the first semester of University/College studies. It leads to a qualification that is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities.
The IB Diploma Program prepares students for university and encourages them to:
• ask challenging academic oriented questions
• learn how to achieve in the fast moving business world
• develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture awareness
• Develop the ability to communicate and understand people from other countries and cultures.
Students will be advised by their teachers and the IB Coordinator as to whether or not it will be feasible to attempt the full IB Diploma, according to personal abilities and further academic goals. Students study five core subjects (first language, second language, social studies, science, and mathematics) at the IB level for one or two years. They choose an additional Sixth Subject from any of the core subject areas or from the arts. All three parts of the core—extended essay, theory of knowledge and creativity, action, service—are compulsory and are central to the philosophy of the Diploma Program. At the end of the two-year program, students are assessed both internally and externally in ways that measure individual performance against stated objectives for each subject.
